Tribal Costume
One of the greatest joys for me in the art of tribal
belly dance is the costume and jewelry. I am a
tribal dancer; this means that I am layered in cloth
and jewelry, and I absolutely adore it!
First, legs: Pantalones, skirt, panel skirt, usually
made of velvet, satin or silk, sashes,scarves made
of a sheer fabric, belt made of fabric or metal and
layers of anklets
Second, top: (shirt varies, midriff usually shown)
layers of necklaces, bracelets on wrists and rings
on fingers.
Third, head: Turban wound with sashes and
jewelry and a large scarf cascading around me
tucked into my belt at my hips.
Last, makeup: I belong to a troupe and we have
our own characteristic marks that we use on our
faces when we dance, I also use very red lipstick
and dark eyeliner.
When I perform it is like nothing else, I feel like I am
the most beautiful creature on the planet and the
reaction I get from the audience in my full costume
is breath taking.
There are essentially two types of costume and
jewelry styles that you will see this is not to say two
types of dance styles there are too many to put
down into categories but these are the main
costume styles that you see today they do mix
though so don't be surprised to see anything
everyone has their own style and taste.

Cabaret Costume
This costume was the costume that I started out in
when I was the ripe age of only 15 and the
glittering and beautiful costumes were very alluring
to such a young girl.
First, legs: Can be either pantalones or skirt
usually slit up the sides to show more skin usually
very bright fabric and has sequins on the fabric,
sash, belt usually metal.
Second, top: (Usually the midriff is shown but the
top can vary) The tops tend to be more revealing
and have more accents on them not much jewelry
around neck and wrist.
Third, head: Headresses are worn on occasion
but the hair is usually worn down around the
soldiers
Last, makeup: Makeup is worn to accentuate a
womans beauty around eyes and lips.
